Drone technology is rapidly advancing and has the potential to accelerate and amplify the impact of social good initiatives.

However, designing and implementing effective drone programs remains complex as they need to be tailored to local contexts while simultaneously operating within a larger ecosystem of policy, regulations, and infrastructure.

Not to mention the challenges associated with finding & landing funding, achieving product-market fit, and communicating your work to the world.

The Challenge

Who I Help

I help teams design and implement drone programs to amplify efforts in the global health, environmental, and humanitarian sectors in Kenya and beyond.

With more than a decade of experience implementing emerging technologies in low-resource settings around the world, I understand the importance of localized solutions and prioritize partnering with local actors and community members.

I help organizations navigate the local regulatory environment, identify technical solutions and partners, conduct feasibility testing, establish operations, and scale for impact.

My services may not be right for you if you’re looking for…

a drone service provider who can work on projects outside of kenya

I am not a drone service provider, but in Kenya, I partner with EcoWings for aerial mapping and monitoring projects. Outside of Kenya, I am unable to support teams in this capacity.

specialized technical support with hardware selection & acquisitioN

I'm not a gearhead. If you need someone to get in the weeds for sensor selection or hardware acquisition, I'm probably not the right consultant for you.

a precision agriculture specialist

I can assist with agricultural drone projects, but it's not my specialty. If you’re looking for a precision ag expert, I can refer you to someone in my network.

A professional cinematographer

I enjoy aerial cinematography, but am not a professional in this area. If you want to film in Kenya, I can connect you with someone in my network.

support on projects with a military or security focus

Again, this is not my focus or area of interest. I am happy to refer you to others working in the space who will be a better fit.

Someone to provide free assistance on a project that doesn’t have a budget

While I’m deeply committed to the #dronesforgood space, I’m unable to take on unpaid projects at this time.

Interested in working together?
Here’s how to get started.

01

Book a Discovery Call

Use the contact form below to book a Discovery Call, where we’ll discuss Key Project Objectives, Deliverables, Project Duration & Timelines, and Project Budget.

Sometimes, teams are still deciding whether to submit a proposal for a project/grant and want to have a call to see if I would be interested in joining their project team. These types of discovery calls are also welcome.

02

Proposal Review

If your project seems like a good fit, I’ll create a proposal and share it with your team to review.

Some donor-funded projects require consultants to formally apply for roles. In this case, teams can invite me to respond to a tender or submit a job application.

03

Finalize Contract

After you review my proposal or application and decide to work together, we’ll finalize our contract. Once the contract has been signed, we’ll begin working together.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • To start, please send a brief inquiry email with a description of your project.

If it seems like a good fit, I'll schedule a discovery call to explore the opportunity further. If my skillset, background, or availability do not match your needs, I’d be happy to connect you with someone in my network who might be a better fit.

  • Four Hundred Feet is an intentional company of one. While I have a handful of contractors that support on internal projects, consulting projects are conducted by me. That said, I have an extensive network of partners and collaborators and can easily staff a larger project team if additional capacity is required for your project.

For Kenya-based projects, I have an established partnership with EcoWings, a local drone service provider and authorized UAS training organization. EcoWings has a talented team of engineers, drone pilots, and technical experts that we can tap into if your project requires additional support.

  • As I am a company of one, I am only able to work on 1-3 consulting projects at any given time. Given this, if you would like to hire me for an upcoming project, the earlier notice you can give me, the better. That way, I can block off my calendar for your project/initiative.

  • Generally, no.

Sometimes, companies/organizations reach out to me looking for help with proposal writing or providing sales support and are only looking to compensate me if the proposal is successful or after I generate sales.

I will only consider this type of compensation if I am written into the project team for the proposal with a significant role or if the product/service is highly aligned with my values and has already achieved product market fit.

  • My rate varies based on the scope and nature of each project. However, my day rate is typically between $450-$550 (or $56-$68 hourly) for medium to longer-term consulting projects.

Unfortunately, I am not able to take on free work at this time. While there are so many impactful projects happening in the space, I receive dozens of requests for free support each week.

I donate my time by serving on the advisory boards of the Commerical UAV Expo’s Path to Leadership Scholarship Program and DroneDeploy’s Resilient Futures Grant Program, as well as offering a handful of free one-on-one coaching and mentoring sessions to members of the #dronesforgood community each month.

I also dedicate a significant amount of time to developing free resources, creating free content, and curating a free weekly industry newsletter.

  • Yes! I love giving talks and lectures.

I’ve given guest lectures for Smith College’s Spatial Analysis Lab, UNICEF’s African Drone & Data Academy, Michigan Medicine’s School of Learning Health Sciences, and for the Precision Agriculture Incubation Program.
